Carl S Mitchell

Carl S. Mitchell, 86, Rockford, passed away on October 18, 2013. He was born on August 7, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri to Bert and Myrtle Mitchell. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and later married Betty Taylor.

He was employed for many years at Barber-Coleman until his retirement. Carl loved to fish, play canasta and ride motorcycles. He was an avid Cubs and Bears Fan.

Carl is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Michael Mitchell, Terry (Thomas) Timmer, Toni (Jim) Cooper and Traci (Kurt) Heckman; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Jane Webb.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Daniel Heckman; son-in-law, Michael Harris; a brother, Bill Mitchell; and sister, June Anderson

Funeral Service will be at 10am, Monday, October 21, 2013 at Rockford First Church of the Nazarene, 4503 Charles Street, Rockford. Pastors Jacob Crowley and Donald Turner will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 2pm to 4pm, Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home. Entombment will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Rockford First Church Of The Nazarene.
