Carl R Venable

Carl R. Venable, 83, of Rockford, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 surrounded by his loving family at home. Born on Jan 29, 1927, to Charles William and Dolly (Martin) Venable in Pottsville, Arkansas. He married Helen B. Knipper on August 11, 1945 in Corinth, MS. They moved to Rockford in 1952. Retired from Quaker Oats Company in Rockford, IL. He was a member of the East Side Church of Christ. Carl leaves behind a loving family. Survivors include his children, Joyce (Gordon) Wallace of Pickens, SC, Lois (Bill) Johnson of Rockford, Jimmy (Tammy) Venable of Rockford, Linda (Dale) Adkisson of Amboy, IL, Debra Opsahl of Rockford, and Michael (Kathy) Venable of Rockford; 14 grandchildren, Jody, Tina, Joy, Brad, Brian, Bethany, Jimmy, Michael, Jeffrey, Charles (Tug), Josh, Jeremy, Elizabeth, and Jacob; 21 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; sister, Wanda Kimbrell; brothers, Troy (Erma) Venable of Florida, William (Mary) Venable of Alabama, Kenneth (Wanda) Venable of TN, David (Sheila) Venable of OK, and Jerry (Donna) Venable of Rockford; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his loving wife, Helen; parents and in-laws, brothers, Billy and James; sister in-law, Joy and brother in-law, Tige. Special thank you to Heartland Hospice, Dr. Weidel, Dr. Esfahani, and Eve Ackerman. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 10, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd., Machesney Park. Officiated by Pastor Neil Inness. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 09, 2011 in the funeral home. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
