Carol Louise Thompson, age 89, of Loves Park, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. She was born June 30, 1936 to Walter and Mary (Rogozinski) Stenzel in Rockford, Illinois. Carol married the love of her life, Gary Thompson, on May 11, 1956.
Carol enjoyed gardening both flowers and vegetables. She was an excellent horseshoe thrower. She dedicated much of her life to caring for her son, Brian, and helping with the Barbara Olson Center of Hope.
Carol is survived by her husband of 69 years, Gary Thompson; children, Dan (Joyce) Thompson and Scott (Melinda) Thompson; grandchildren, Benjamin Thompson and Amanda Thompson; step-grandchildren, Dawn (Kevin) Cook and Cheryl (Terry) Davis; step-great-grandchild, Ashley; siblings, Dolly (Don) Massier, Larry (Barb) Stenzel, and Paul Stenzel; best friend, Betty (Craig) Day; special sister-in-law, Pat (Herb Grigg) Picavet; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her son, Brian Thompson; parents, Walter and Mary Stenzel; in-laws, Clarence and Bobbie Thompson; and brother, Walter “Sonny” (Carol) Stenzel.
Carol had written a letter to her family to share: I want to tell my Gary and my boys, Daniel and Scott, how much I love them and also their wives. I am pleased you gals have made my sons so happy! Thank you! Then there is the happiness my grandchildren, Benjamin and Amanda, have brought to me. They are so special! I couldn’t ask for such special kids! My love for you is insurmountable!! I am so happy for my family! You all are the best! Love you all forever!! – Nani

She will always be remembered and greatly missed.
