Charles “Chuck” Dale Murphy, 92, of Rockford, Illinois passed away on March 30, 2022. He was born in Searcy, Arkansas on July 29, 1929 to Edgar and Maude Murphy. Chuck proudly served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged from the US Army. Chuck worked for Wurlitzer in DeKalb for 18 years, National Lock for 13 years, and Mikron for 17 years until retiring at the age of 80. He married Janet Olson on April 21, 1984. He was an avid reader and read his Bible every day. Chuck loved doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, watching TV, and his chocolate. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bear fan. Chuck and Janet loved taking their yearly trip to Branson, Missouri or spending the day at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Chuck will greatly be missed by all that knew and loved him.
Chuck is survived by his wife of almost 38 years, Janet; his children, Greta Murphy, Forrest (Donna) Murphy, Michael (Wendy) Murphy and Tammy (Gene Ditman) Olson-Hammes; his 10 grandchildren; his 4 great grandchildren; his sisters, Pat, Linda (Dean) and Bonna; his brothers, Willie, Jim (Sue), Jerry (Janet) and Don (Jennifer); his sisters-in-law, Janice (Rodger) Phillips and Nancy (Terry) Kurzinski and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Steffin Murphy; his sisters, Mary (Derrell), Virginia and Donna; his sister-in-law, Shirley; and his brother-in-law, Norman Beck.
Funeral Service will take place for Chuck at 1:00 PM on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Calvary Christian Church, 5455 Charles Street, Rockford, Illinois 61108. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until the time of service. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8800 N. Alpine Rd. Machesney Park, Illinois 61115. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Chuck’s name to Calvary Christian Church or the Rockford Rescue Mission.
