

Corneliu (Cony) Morosanu, 69 of Rockford, IL died peacefully in his home on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at 6:25 P.M. attended by his loving wife Georgeta and son Marius. Born on Dec 10, 1941 in Bucharest, Romania to Traian and Ana Morosanu. Corneliu received his Masters in Architecture at Ion Mincu Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning in Bucharest, Romania where he worked as an architect for many years.
On June 20th,1984, Corneliu led his family in a daring escape from communist Romania - crossing the Danube River into Yugoslavia on a rubber raft with his wife, son, and brother in-law. In September of that year, his family was sponsored and welcomed into the United States by members of Hillcrest Covenant Church in DeKalb, Illinois.
In early 1985 Corneliu was hired at Ware Associates (Rockford) where he started his architectural career in the United States and was promoted to the position of associate architect in 1988. During the following years, Corneliu also worked at Williams and Elliott Associates, Larson & Darby Architects, and Saavedra Gehlhausen Architects.
The majority of his architectural work was focused on designing, planning, rendering and the creation of architectural models for church projects. Among his favorite projects were Our Saviors Lutheran Church (Rockford) - for which he received an honorary Award for Excellence in Architecture, Christ the Rock Lutheran Church (Rockford), Bethany Lutheran Church (Naperville), St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (Savanna), Grace United Methodist (Rockford), Holly Family Catholic Church (Litchfield), Immanuel Lutheran Church (Belvidere), and many others. Other notable projects included the remodeling of Rockford’s City Hall, remodeling of NIU’s Student Center (DeKalb), First National Bank (Rockford) as well as Rockford’s downtown parking deck. Corneliu became an associate of the American Institute or Architects in 1988 and received many praises for his work from colleagues and clients.
Corneliu is survived by his wife Georgeta, three children, Rovana (Jimmy) Fowler, Traian (Jana) Morosanu, Marius (Loredana) Morosanu, five grandchildren, Carrina and Arriana (Rovana) Fowler, Armand and Enzo (Marius) Morosanu, and Alexander (Traian) Morosanu, his sister Rodica (Dorin) Lucreteanu, niece Christina and many cousins.
Visitation and service will be held on Friday, June 24th at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd., Machesney Park, 61115 with John Sprecher, Senior Pastor of Rock Church officiating. Visitation from 12 - 2 p.m. is immediately followed by service and entombment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. After entombment, refreshments will be served from 4:30 - 6:30p.m. at Rock Church located at 6732 Harrison Ave., Rockford, 61108.
Corneliu will be remembered by all for his amazing affinity for life, love, laughter and courage.
