Curt was born on March 24th, 1948 in Rockford, IL. He first dedicated his life to Christ in June of 1971 and was baptized in the Eleven Point River in Irish Wilderness, MO, by his uncle, Rev. Walter Simpson.
He grew up in Rockford, IL, and met the love of his life at the age of 8 years old. He attended Guilford High School, graduating in 1966. On August 19th, 1967, he married his once in a lifetime love, Elona (Cox) Ogden at Central Christian Church. Together, they raised three children, all of whom he was so incredibly proud of. Curt was a Deacon at Calvary Christian Church in Rockford for many years. He worked for National Lock for 19 years, followed briefly by a position at Colonial Bakery. He then owned and operated Ogden Lawn Service for nearly 40 years, where he just recently retired the business in 2022.
Curt was a very special man who loved the Lord, his family, and the St. Louis Cardinals more than anything in the world. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, and Pawpaw. Curt was a faithful Christian and rejoiced in His praises daily. He seized every opportunity to crack a joke and make someone smile with his youthful and silly approach to life. Curt was an incredible role model and served as a foundation of good faith, good will, and good humor. He coached baseball teams and love to invest time teaching the game. When he wasn’t on the sidelines cheering for his grandchildren, Curt could be found rooting for his Cardinals, whether from Busch Stadium or the comfy chair in his living room. He enjoyed playing a weekly round of golf with his best buddies, spending time with his church family, stopping for lunch at local family diners, and frequently dozing off at family functions. The love he shared is returned tenfold as he was, and forever will be, adored and cherished by so many. He will be infinitely loved and missed, but his legacy will live on through his family and friends who had the wonderful opportunity of knowing and loving him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Elona, sons, Kevin (Mary) Ogden, Kent (Jennifer) Ogden, and daughter, Kara (Gabriel) Castillo; grandchildren, Tyler Schmittel, Brittany (Clayton) Sohner, Sarah (Kellen) Murphy, Abigail (Trevor) Gerig, Kylee (Blake) Nelson, Emily Ogden, Halie Castillo, Grant Ogden, Caleb Castillo, and Isabella Castillo; great-grandchildren; Brooks, Bennett, Stella, and Wrenley. He will also be greatly missed by his brother in-laws and sister in-laws as well as many other cousins, extended family and his two pups, Oggy & Gibby. Predeceased by his parents, Harold and Anna Lee Ogden, and his sisters, Sandy Whiteside and Beverly Thomas.
