Curt S. Schiavo, age 63, of Loves Park, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, after a courageous fight of a very rare bone marrow cancer called Mast Cell Sarcoma. He passed peacefully surrounded by his two girls: Kim and Kara. Curt was born in Rockford, Illinois, on October 7, 1959, to Art and Lori Schiavo. He graduated from Guilford High School in 1978 and went on to work at the nuclear plant in Byron, Illinois, as a pipefitter for Local 23. Shortly after, Curt took over Summer’s Turf Lawn Care and was the owner and operator of the business for 34 years. He was still managing and operating his business up until his diagnosis. On February 20, 1988, Curt married the love of his life, Kim Anderson. They spent 43 beautiful years together. They truly were the best of friends, and their marriage was a true example for others. He was a member of City First Church and loved the Lord. Curt was a loving husband, father, and grandpa. He was a light to all who knew him; cared for others, always had a smile on his face and knew how to make anyone laugh. He was simply a joy to be around and will be greatly missed.
Curt had many hobbies and interests. Some of which were cars, especially his ZL1 Chevy Camaro, bowling, and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed going to St. Louis every season with his family to watch games and attended The Winter Warm up meeting players. Curt was a bowler for many years and earned several accomplishments during his bowling career. He bowled in the Miller Scratch League on Thursday nights at Cherry Bowl and the Tuesday night league at Viking Lanes. Along with King of the Hill Tournaments at Don Carter Lanes for over 30 years. Curt was inducted into the Rockford Bowling Hall of Fame in 2002. Most of Curt’s closest friends were from bowling and he loved the entire bowling community. He was also a member of The Blackhawk Athletic Club where he enjoyed meeting and socializing with friends there.
