Dan graduated from Harlem High School in 1969. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1970-1972. After his time in the service, he graduated from Rock Valley College and worked as a computer programmer for many years. Dan had an impeccable gift with numbers, which is why he could be seen at his favorite casino, Grand Victoria, frequently. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He was genuine, transparent, and a good listener. He always gave the best advice. Dan had a special way of finding his way into your heart and leaving a lasting impression. He taught us all many lessons. Most of all, Dan enjoyed being a father; always providing unconditional love and support to his daughter, Lisa. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Dan is survived by his loving daughter Lisa (Michael Wight) Istad; siblings, Michael (Lynne) Istad and Becky (Andy) Zolko; nieces and nephews, Robert Istad, Carrie Spriggs, Jay Zolko and Aaron Zolko.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 1pm until the time of the Limited Capacity Funeral Service at 2pm at Sunset Funeral Home (8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115). Interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The service will be live-streamed on Sunset Memorial Gardens Facebook page. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Morning Star Village, Fairhaven, and Heartland Hospice for the exceptional care they gave to Dan.
