Dan Lloyd Istad, 70, of Rockford, Illinois passed away peacefully on April 29, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Dan was born on November 18, 1950 in Rockford, Illinois to Lloyd and Mary Istad.

Dan graduated from Harlem High School in 1969. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1970-1972. After his time in the service, he graduated from Rock Valley College and worked as a computer programmer for many years. Dan had an impeccable gift with numbers, which is why he could be seen at his favorite casino, Grand Victoria, frequently. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He was genuine, transparent, and a good listener. He always gave the best advice. Dan had a special way of finding his way into your heart and leaving a lasting impression. He taught us all many lessons. Most of all, Dan enjoyed being a father; always providing unconditional love and support to his daughter, Lisa. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Dan is survived by his loving daughter Lisa (Michael Wight) Istad; siblings, Michael (Lynne) Istad and Becky (Andy) Zolko; nieces and nephews, Robert Istad, Carrie Spriggs, Jay Zolko and Aaron Zolko.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 1pm until the time of the Limited Capacity Funeral Service at 2pm at Sunset Funeral Home (8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115). Interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The service will be live-streamed on Sunset Memorial Gardens Facebook page. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Morning Star Village, Fairhaven, and Heartland Hospice for the exceptional care they gave to Dan.

Dan was such a special human being. His love for his daughter Lisa was a beautiful thing to witness. According to Dan I’m Lisa 2.0 and I feel incredibly honored, truly, with that title. Lisa is such an amazing human being and has such a beautiful soul. Dan loved art and had such attention to detail. He was my art buddy. I know so many many people connected with Dan on a deep level because he was such a caring and good listener. He also had the special talent of listening AT YOU which made you feel that you had to share ♥️

I will always love and miss Dan. He was such an empathetic person who really listened and cared. Lisa is an example of what a great dad he was. Witnessing how she loved and cared for him was such a beautiful sight. I am truly blessed for having had Dan and Lisa in my life.
