Dennis “Mike” Abbott, 78, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on February 16, 2026, in Madison, Wisconsin. Mike was born on April 4, 1947, to Vern and Helen Abbott in Rockford. Mike was outspoken, strong, and determined. This led him to several career endeavors, but his favorite was running his own septic construction service. During this time, Mike found many fascinating things and had just as many stories to go with it even including the time he was digging and found artifacts later donated to the Chicago Field Museum. In his younger years, he worked on various farms, which had a big part of why Mike always lived in the country.
On August 12, 2000, Mike married his sweetheart, Janice, and he has missed her everyday since her passing in 2021. Together they faithfully attended 20th Street Missionary Baptist Church. He loved her family dearly, and grew very close to them.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Kundert; grandchildren, Damien (Tabitha) Scott Abbott, Raymond Michael Keller, and Zachariah Oz Keller; great-grandson, Logan Abbott; step-granddaughters, Haylee Henk and Layla Jerrick; sister, Diane White; step-siblings, Sandra and Gary; many extended family members through Janice.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; parents, Vern and Helen; brother, Jon Abbott; sister, Jane Ball.
A Celebration of Life for Mike will be announced in the coming days.
