Dennis Ray Garvin, 73, of Baileyville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 4, 2021. Born July 27, 1947 in Muscatine, IA. Son of Raymond and Vera Gay (Green) Garvin. Graduated from Muscatine High School class of 1965. Attended Keokuk Community College in Keokuk, IA. Enlisted in the United States Navy in 1968 during the Vietnam era working stateside as a medic. United in marriage to Lorana Metzler on August 16, 1975 in St Paul Lutheran Church in Rockford. Employed as a Printer Pressman for 30 years. Athletics played a major role in Dennis’s life as in his younger years he was an active Basketball and Baseball player. He was even drafted by St. Louis and the Mets. Dennis was a high school baseball Coach for Boylan for almost 20 years. As a Boylan Coach, he sent many athletics to the Majors. In his spare time he found enjoyment in fishing, hunting, boating and being an outdoors man as he was raised on a farm. A die hard St Louis Cardinal’s fan having attended many games. Member of the Blackhawk Athletic Club and the Baltic Club until it closed.
Survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Lorana; daughters, Denise (Mark) White of Lowden, IA and Heather (Steve) Madden of Freeport, IL; son, James (Kelly) Garvin of Woodland, CA; brother, Gregory (Sue) Garvin of Muscatine, IA; sister, Judith (John) Lawrence of Mt. Pleasant, IA; grandchildren, Tawni Peters, Nick Jones, Brittney Jones, Allison Nunn, Ashley (Rick) Denny, Madison White, Michael Garvin, Chris Madden, Cassie Madden, Brennen Garvin, Donovan Garvin, Kailyn Tarbell; great-grandchildren, Lexi Peters, Angel LaGrange, Livy Lenser, Amya Clark, Carter Amborn, Kilian Hedgepeth, Aiden Nunn, August Nunn, Lilly Denny, Braden Madden, Conner Madden; mother-in-law, Gloria J. Metzler; nieces and nephews, Jason Lawrence, Callie (Shane) Brass, Conner (Katy) Lawrence, Jillan (Drew) Smith, Jon (Megan) Garvin, Matt (Danielle) Garvin; special friends, Jason (Crystal) Ludke, Karen and Lee Ludke, Melinda Bagley, Geno Johnson and Al and Linda Fosse.
Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 11th at Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, 617 Lincoln Ave, Rockford, IL 61102. Celebration of Life Memorial Visitation the night before 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park.
