

Donald Leslie Johnson, 87, of Plymouth Minnesota passed away peacefully, with loving family at his side, on February 22, 2010. He was preceded in death by his dear wife of 62 years, Helen (Ohda) Johnson, his parents Emil and Ida (Smithberg) Johnson, brother Melvin (Genevieve), and sister Alice (Jack) Tarro. Donald is survived by his daughter Sally Johnson Kluetz of Plymouth, grandsons Karl (Mayumi Miki) Kluetz of Seattle Washington and Erik (Estreitta Martin) Kluetz of Fort Worth Texas, great-granddaughter Shannon Kluetz of Seattle, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Don was born on March 5, 1922 and lived most of his life in Rockford Illinois. Donald was a veteran of WWII serving with the 5th U.S. Army Infantry and then Company B 345th Engineers in Italy and Greece. Following the war, Don was employed by Eclipse Inc. for 42 years where he managed the tool room. Donald was a member of the Men’s Chorus at Harmony Singing Society and American Legion Post #1207 in Rockford. He attended Brooke Road United Methodist Church. Donald loved his family dearly. Don was an excellent golfer. He enjoyed music, singing, dogs, gardening, and entertaining others. He had a special wit and loved to share a smile with everyone he met. Many thanks to the kind staff of Presbyterian Homes on Lake Minnetonka, Spring Park Minnesota, for the expertise and loving care they demonstrated during Donald’s stay there. A service celebrating Donald’s life will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N.
