

Donna J. Apgar, 65, Of Machesney Park, passed away September 29, 2021. She was a dedicated advocate for animals. Donna was a loving wife of over 47 years to Bill Apgar. And she was a kind and compassionate person who made an impact on her family, her community, and more animal companions than one could count. Donna was born on January 18, 1956 in Germany to Gerald and Lillian (Bland) Thomas. She was raised in the Machesney Park area and was a graduate of Harlem High School. She served the Rockford area employed at Barber Colman for 19 years, and volunteered and worked with Winnebago County Animal Services totaling 26 years. She also worked with support animals with Northern Illinois Hospice. Donna loved spending time in nature and enjoying the wildlife camping with Bill. She will be deeply missed.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Bill Apgar; mother, Lillian Thomas; siblings, Jerry (Cindy) Thomas, Steve (Diane) Thomas, Sandy Thomas, and Karen (Mike) Lindstrom; nieces and nephews, Greg (Jeni) Thomas, Ken Thomas, Mike Thomas, Amanda Thomas, Andrew Thomas, Vanessa (Rob) Vansickle, Ramon Vasquez, Sheri (Aaron) Krogman, John (Tabitha) Lenz, as well as multiple great nieces and nephews and extended family members whom she loved dearly.
She is predeceased by her father, Gerald Thomas.
A funeral for Donna will be held Wednesday, October 6 at 10am at Sunset Funeral Home. Located at 8800 N. Alpine Rd. Machesney Park IL 61115. A visitation will be held at 9am until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family in creating a foundation in Donna’s honor to help continue saving animals.
