Erik D. Wilberg, age 37, of Rockton, Illinois passed away on September 1, 2026. He was born July 10, 1989 in Caledonia, Illinois to David R. and Debra L. (Stewart) Wilberg. He married the love of his life, Georgette Lane, on July 19, 2026 after being together for 12 years.
Erik was always searching for new ways to expand his knowledge and learn new skills. Whether it was perfecting a cup of coffee or teaching himself to code and write scripts on the computer, he approached everything with curiosity, passion, and an incredible eye for detail. When something interested Erik, he didn’t just learn about it, he immersed himself in it.
He loved mountain biking, photography, and discovering new tools and technologies. One of his favorite places was Rock Cut State Park. Whether he was biking or walking the trails, taking photographs, or simply enjoying the view by the lake, Erik was happiest when he had a reason to be outside.
More than anything, Erik cared deeply for his family and friends. The relationships he built with the people he loved were what mattered most to him. He also had a remarkable way of finding good people and building friendships that lasted. His friends were there for him when he needed them most, just as they knew without question that Erik would have been there for them.
Erik was deeply loved by his family, his friends, and everyone fortunate enough to truly know him. The impact he had on their lives cannot be measured, and the memories, laughter, friendship, and love he gave them will remain long after his passing. He will be missed more than words can ever say.
Erik is survived by his wife, Georgette E. Lane; parents, David and Debra Wilberg; sister, Tennille M. (Jason) Cain; grandparents, Gunnel D. Stewart and Rodney O. Wilberg; niece, Chloe Cain; nephew, Jason Cain Jr.; aunt, Ellen (Tim) Erdman; uncle, Victor (Cathy Curtis) Stewart; and pup, Evy.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dennis G. Eksten; and grandmother, Patricia A. Wilberg.
A public viewing for Erik will be held Wednesday, September 9 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
