Ervin L. Edwards, 68, of Rockford, Illinois, took his last drive on October 5, 2026. Ervin was born on April 10, 1958, in Rockford, to Leroy Edwards and Lois Linder. Ervin was lovingly raised by Leroy and Fern Edwards, and graduated from Kissimmee High School in Florida. He was extremely close to his father, even working with him and his brother Eddie fixing mobile homes. After his father’s untimely passing, he made the decision to join the United States Army and faithfully served his country for four years. Through his time in the service, he earned the title of Sergeant Edwards and traveled the world. Ervin found the most joy when his deployment took him to Germany. After his time in the Army, he proudly joined the reserves for another four years. During his time transitioning out of the Army, Ervin found many jobs that he loved doing. To name a few, he was a talented machinist and loved being on the road as a truck driver.
In 1987, Ervin married Ana, or as he called her, his “Ace”. His personality was big, and his character spoke volumes. Ervin not only would give you the shirt off his back, but he would find you a home, the furniture to put in it, and everything else in between. He was generous and giving to anyone and everyone, as well as welcoming to all he came across. Ervin never knew a stranger. He truly enjoyed his time with people and looked forward to gatherings no matter how big or small the occasion was. He simply just wanted to be there.
Ervin also liked to dress up and look nice, because he never knew where the drive would take him. He always took the long way home and always went off the beaten path because you never knew what treasures it would take you to. When he was home, there was almost a 100% chance he was sitting in his white rocking chair on the porch. He made so many friends in his neighborhood that they would drive by just to wave or say hi. Ervin’s relationships with people meant everything to him. He mentored many kids, even if they didn’t realize it at the time. You knew he loved you if you had a given nickname, or several. Not only did his connection reach people, but even animals. He always was joined by his cat Fluffy.
He is survived by his loving Ace, Ana Edwards; daughters, Nieves (Dennis) Walston, Maribel (Steven) Struven, and Virginia Aguilar, grandson, Noah “Goo” Aguilar; long-time best friend, Guillermo “Willie” Aguilar; as well as many others who considered him a dad, grandpa, or poppop; siblings, Eugene Edwards, Elaine Edwards, and Eddie Edwards; many special and beloved nieces, nephews, and friends; cat, fluffy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Fern Edwards; mother, Lois; siblings, Elvin “Pete” Edwards and Ellen Edwards.
