Eula was born on June 24, 1932 in Hoxie, Arkansas to Will and Donnie Johnson. She met the love of her life Thomas Gene at the Rialto Theater, Rockford, Illinois in 1947, marrying the dashing young man that same year. They raised two daughters, Vicky and Brandi, and one son, Danny. She worked for more than 30 years at General Electric and Ello Furniture before semi retiring to drive school bus for handicapped children, a job she deeply loved. She was known for being hard headed yet having a quick wit and an infectious smile.
Eula was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, her mother and father and 13 siblings. She is survived by her 3 children, a brother, Raymond, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Eula’s work here is done. She received a call, a sort of offer you just can’t refuse, for an appointment from which she will not be returning- which comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with her husband of more than 50 years, her mother and father, her many brothers and sisters, and so many friends she hasn’t seen for a very long time.
Eula’s new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be without pain and suffering. Music, laughter and love are guaranteed. The food is delicious and you never gain weight. She left detailed instructions to celebrate her life and celebrate her new mission with God.
For the last 8 years she lived with her daughter Vicky who provided loving care. Vicky’s husband Chuck also provided assistance even becoming her personal chef of choice. The family gives them and everyone who helped care for her at St. Anthony Hospital and River bluff nursing home their greatest and warmest gratitude.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, June 28, 2019 at 10am at sunset funeral home and memorial gardens, 8800 N. Alpine Rd. Rockford IL 61115. A visitation will be held at 9am until the time of service.
