The trumpet of the Lord has sounded and time on this earth is no more for Floyd Morris Lane of Rockford. He entered the gates of glory from Willows Health Care Center on July 27, 2012. Family members surrounded Floyd for weeks prior to his passing giving him comfort and support until he was called to Heaven.
He was born October 5, 1913 in Jefferson County, Illinois to James Albert and Mary Elizabeth “Lizzie” Rainwater Lane. He married Helen Marshall on September 5, 1935 in Rochelle, IL.
Born and raised on a farm in southern Illinois, he moved to Rochelle, IL in 1928 and began working for Del Monte, in the Rochelle area. After marrying “the prettiest little red head in Rochelle”, he returned to what he loved doing, farming. Later he continued to farm and began working for Geo Spengler Corp., where he was known as “Tiny”. He retired in 1981.
We can only imagine the reunion he is experiencing with all his family and friends who went ahead of him. From the moment in 1941 when he bowed his knee and gave his heart and life to God he has been a witness to the saving grace of his Father in Heaven. He was a caregiver to anyone in need and always available for prayer, day or night. He was a “Gentle Giant” to many who knew and cared for him. A true man of God, a good and faithful servant, he was a member of Riverside Assembly of God since 1950, where he served as a board member, usher, Sunday school teacher and a loyal supporter.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Helen Marshall Lane, children, Marilyn Ruth (Don) Hill and Joyce Ann (Carroll) Norman; grandchildren Kahla (fiancé Mark Kennedy) Hill, Kerry (Sandy) Hill, Kyle Hill, Bethany (William) Norman-Atwood and great-grandchildren, Ryan and Adam Hill, brother-in-law Paul Marshall whom he loved as a son, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ruby Trowbridge and Marie Trowbridge, brother Leonard Lane and beloved grandson, Michael Lane Norman.
A special “thanks” to LuAnne, Lynn, Carole, Chaplin Bruce Main, the E-wing staff members of Willows Health Care Center, VNA Hospice and the many family members and friends who so faithfully visited during the past year of his residency.
Our daddy was our anchor, protector, provider, caregiver, and supporter. We will miss him forever, but we are not as those without hope because we will see him again, I Thessalonians 4:18.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday July 31, 2012 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Riverside Assembly of God, 4242 West Riverside Blvd. Rockford, IL. Visitation will be July 30, 2012, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Riverside Assembly of God. Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park, IL. Pastors Jim Moore and Truman Turner will be officiating.
