Frances H. Snyder, 87, of South Beloit, IL passed away surrounded by her loving family on June 30, 2022. She was born in Ontario, Canada on December 9, 1934 to Norman and Hazel (Beaton) Walsh. Frances was a 1953 graduate of Harlem High School and attended college at NIU. She worked for Harlem School District as a Teacher and Secretary for the Special Education Director. Frances married Gene Snyder on March 24, 1956 and together they raised 2 sons. Frances and Gene moved to Dickson, TN in 1979 where they owned and operated the KOA there until moving back to the Rockford area in 2007. She was a Deacon at Sun Valley Presbyterian Church in Beloit, WI. Frances loved animals and had a special place in her heart for cats. She enjoyed knitting and was a member of the women’s book club at church. Even though her nickname was “The Boss” she was known as being loving and kind. Frances will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Frances is survived by her husband of 66 years, Gene; her sons, Gene Jr. (June) Snyder and Alan (Debby) Snyder; her grandchildren, Aaron (Brandi Buss) Snyder, Justin Smith, and Brandon (Heather) Smith; her great-grandchildren, Liam and Logan Smith, and Cain Snyder; her siblings, Bette (Ronald) Peterson, Rodney (Pat) Walsh, Jack Walsh, Bill (Jane) Walsh; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Gayle Wadley.
Funeral service for Frances will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 8, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd., Machesney Park, IL 61115. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the start of service. Burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Frances name to Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary, 111 N 1st St, Rockford, IL 61107.
