

Francis “Buck” W. Mittelsteadt, 82, of Machesney Park passed away December 17, 2010, in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Born January 24, 1928 in Shullsburg, WI, the son of William and Florence (Bird) Mittelsteadt. He was united in marriage to Maryel N. Robbins in Cuba City, WI on September 17, 1949. Buck served in the U.S. Navy and Army Paratroopers during the WWII period. He was an avid Cubs fan and loved fishing. During his life, he was a Boy Scout Leader, Softball and Baseball Coach in the Harlem School district and a volunteer fireman for the North Park Fire Department. Survived by wife, Maryel Mittelsteadt of Machesney Park; Children, Stephan (Laura) Mittelsteadt of Warwick, RI., Greg (Sue) Mittelsteadt of Rockford, Geneva (Ken) Klenz of Loves Park, Bradley Mittelsteadt of Kittery, ME.; grandchildren, Douglas and Matthew Mittelsteadt, Shannon (Jason) Fisher, Greg (Maudi) Mittelsteadt, Jr., Chris McCarthy, Tim (Liz) McCarthy, Tia (Gene) Davis, Maggie (Brandon) Scott; Seven great- grandchildren; siblings, Geraldine Kissinger, Marge Green, Mary Ziebell, Charlotte Rous, Vernie, Albert and Robert Mittelsteadt; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; brothers, Melvin, Gordon and Charles Mittelsteadt. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 22nd at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd., Machesney Park. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
