Gary K. McAlister

Gary Kenneth McAlister, 67 of Loves Park passed away August 21, 2014 at Presence St. Anne Center. Born March 9, 1947 in Portageville, MO.; he was the son of Felix and Lena (Moss) McAlister. He married Gloria Siden October 25, 1969 in Loves Park.

A former member of North Love Baptist Church, Gary retired from Ingersoll Cutting Tools, after 33 years of employment. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Loves Park Fire Department, where he gave devoted service for 37 years, achieving the rank of Assistant Fire Chief.

A family oriented man and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Gary enjoyed NASCAR, playing sports, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Gloria McAlister; his children, Pamela (Paul) Cook, John (Sandy) McAlister, and Gina Scott; grandchildren, Stefan Cook, Kitchrik and Keifer Schmitz, Ty and Paige Scott; sister, Barbara Ash; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Felix and Lena McAlister; brothers, Warren and Jim McAlister.

The family would like give special thanks to the staff of Presence St. Anne Care Center.

Funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park, with Pastor Tim Spickler officiating.
