
Gary P. McGraw, 88, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, Monday evening, July 20, 2026 at Wesley Willows. He was born July 15, 1938 in Rockford, IL, the son of Roy E. and Leona (Stevenson) McGraw. He graduated from East High School and went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1956-1962. Gary married the love of his life, Karen Jore, on June 16, 1962 in Houston, MN. He was a faithful member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where he served in many capacities. Gary was employed at National Lock and retired from Camcar Textron. He enjoyed running, hiking, snowshoeing, and going to the gym. Gary also enjoyed cross country skiing, camping and traveling. Gary was an avid Chicago Bears fan. He will be remembered as a caring man who had a great sense of humor and enjoyed teasing family and friends.
Gary is loved and missed by his wife of 64 years, Karen; children, Patty (Norbert) Pepsnik and Steven McGraw; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Barbara (Dave) Hamm and his brothers Roy Jr. (Wilma) and Robert (Nancy) McGraw.

A memorial visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a memorial service to begin at 2:00 p.m. Burial with military honors to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
