Gary N Schoonover, age 86, of Machesney Park, Illinois, passed away on October 13, 2025. He was a born on September 20, 1939, in Rockford, Illinois, to Harry and Margaret (Worden) Schoonover. He served in the Navy in his younger years. Gary worked for many years as an auto worker at the Chrysler plant.
Gary was a voracious reader and was always found with a book in hand. He enjoyed walking and collecting interesting things he found on those walks.
He is survived by his children, Deanna Morton and Todd (Sara) Schoonover; granddaughter, Ashley Williams; and siblings, Linda (Robert) McAfee and Chuck Schoonover.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Margaret Schoonover; brothers, Robert, Richard, and Bill Schoonover; and sister, Susie Ball.
Gary will be remembered fondly by his family and friends.
A service for Gary will be held in the spring.
