

Born August 15, 1941 in Sparta, Wisconsin, the son of Arthur Robert Hewitt and Helen Mae (Himert) Hewitt.
Graduated from Harlem High School in 1959 and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Illinois Wesleyan University. He served in the U.S. Army Illinois National Guard from 1963-1969. Employed by Moore Business Forms, Ipsen Industries and Wisconsin Knife Works before retiring in 2003.
Member of Bethany Presbyterian Church for over 70 years and was a long time choir member, part of the Nu-Glory Quartet and served as a Deacon and Elder.
He enjoyed road rallying, gardening, sailing, golfing, running and singing. He completed seven Boston Marathons and sang in Handel’s Messiah by the Rockford Choral Union. His happy place was being at home on the river and working in his yard.
Married the love of his life, Sandra Grandelis, on November 25, 1967 and was blessed to have 54 years together.
He enjoyed family vacations every summer at Scharenberg’s White Lake Resort in Montello, Wisconsin. Took weekend trips with his family to Eau Claire, Wisconsin while spending time exploring nature with overnight lodging at hotels where he taught his daughters how to swim. He enjoyed taking his family sailing on Pierce Lake and Lake Geneva. Since 2010, while wintering in Florida on the Gulf of Mexico, he loved walking along the beach with his wife. It was important that he was there for the numerous talented things his amazing daughters and grandchildren were a part of.
Survived by his beloved wife, Sandra, two beautiful, loving daughters, Jennifer (Todd) Watermann and Nicole (Vincent) Lara along with his four precious grandchildren, Lauren, Collin, Olivia and Madeline who truly brought joy to his life.
Predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Helen, and his brother, Robert Hewitt.
Memorial service will be held at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 5403 N. 2nd Street, Loves Park, IL at 11:00am on Saturday, June 11 with private graveside services at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bethany Presbyterian Church.
