Gordon S. Hummer Sr., 84, of Machesney Park, IL, formerly of Hoopeston, IL, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday March 2, 2020. He was born February 21, 1936 in Janesville, WI, the son of William and Gladys (Olson) Hummer. Gordon graduated from Union Free High School in Juda, WI, class of 1955. He was a proud farmer in the Monroe, WI area; while he was farming he also worked at the Prairie Hill Cheese Factory. Gordon also worked as a machine operator at American National Can in Hoopeston, IL, for 33 years, proudly retiring at the age of 78. He married Carol Klein on December 8, 1973. Gordon was a man of faith, and was of the Baptist denomination. He loved sports, football and was a Nascar fan. Gordon enjoyed being in nature, collecting things, and was passionate about recycling. Most of all, Gordon loved his family.
Gordon is loved and missed by his children, Gordon (Loretta) Hummer, Jr., and Tonya (Todd) Tidwell; stepchildren, Wayne (Elaine) DeJong, Russell DeJong and Lisa (Mike) DeJong-Dever; several grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and his sister, Audrey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol in 2003; parents, William and Gladys, siblings, William, Norma, and Beverly.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a visitation to begin at 1:00 p.m., until the time of service. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials to the family.
