

Gordon W. Meadors, age 72, of Rockford, IL passed away and ended his battle with pancreatic cancer on March 29, 2025 at City of Hope Cancer Center in Zion, IL. Gordon was born on June 21, 1952 in Chicago, IL to Jewel Kinard Meadors and Jean Alice (Jackson) Meadors. In his early twenties, he honorably served in the United States Army as a clerk and typist. Gordon was a major sports enthusiast but was a die hard Chicago fan; Cubs, Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks and even the White Sox. He had a deep love for music and had no problem singing a tune no matter where he was or who was around. He shared this love with his wife who would often sing duets with him. He enjoyed playing pool and watching true crime. In the final years of his life, he drove a school bus for handicapped and disabled children. He LOVED those kids and took pride in ensuring they were kept safe and enjoyed their time with him.
He was an excellent cook and was known in Chicago for his famously delicious Spaghetti!
Gordon is survived by his wife of 47 years Lida Meadors, Joseph King (Yolinda), Reginald King, Michelle Boyd (Lawrence), Timothy GJK Meadors (Hilda), Jermaine Meadors (Kirsten), Felicia Gray (Kevin) and Melissa Meadors; brothers Mack (Sandra) Meadors, Bryon (Maryanna) Meadors, Donald (Mable) Meadors and Kenneth (Orene) Meadors. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Tamera King, Joseph King Jr., Reginald King Jr., Alicia King, Jaylen King, London Conwell, Mylen King, Faith Boyd, Asia Boyd, Jordan Boyd, Isaiah Boyd, Isaac Boyd, Elijah Boyd, Ethan Boyd, Devin Boyd, Brazen Boyd, Khloe Meadors and Jayden Gray. He was also blessed to have three great grandchildren, Echo Banks Naqvi, Harper Haven Naqvi and Eliza Noelle Schuring-Boyd. Along with a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jewel Kinard Meadors and Jean Alice Meadors; His siblings, Jewel Meadors, Patrick Meadors, Anthony Meadors, Jeffrey Meadors, Vernon Meadors, Ramona Meadors, and Ronald Meadors.
Gordon was blessed to have a long life filled with cherished memories and experiences. He grew such a beautiful family tree.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd., Machesney Park, IL 61115. Visitation will be from 12pm - 2pm. Service begins at 2pm with a repast to follow.
