

Harry was born on January 19, 1934 in Rockford, the son of Fred Lee and Elizabeth Helen (Vernick) Turner. Harry married Toyoko Matsunaga on September 2, 1958. Harry was a 22 year Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving in Korea and Vietnam as a Gunnery Sargent where he received 2 Purple Hearts and many other commendations. Harry retired from the Optical Center after 20 plus years of service. Harry loved woodworking, refurbishing old tractors and was a big fan of Bluegrass Country Music. Harry was a longtime member and former Board member of St. Ambrosia Club.
Harry is survived by his wife Toyoko; children: Thomas L. (Ellen) Turner, Patricia E. (Brian) Bond, Alan P. Turner, Susan K. (Robert) Peets and Dale F. (Amy) Turner; grandchildren: Amanda G. and Allison E. Bond, Jacob K. Turner, Kyle R., Brandon F. and Carrie Anne Peets, Taylor J. Phillips, Kennedy H. and Haley E. Turner; sisters Marilyn Rhom and Patricia (Dennis) Wagner; brother Fred (Judy) Turner; longtime friend: Ken Brueggeman.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law LaFoy Rhom.

Funeral liturgy to celebrate Harry’s life will be 11:00 am Friday June 24, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park. Visitation will be Thursday June 23, 2016 from 5:00 pm until Rosary at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Entombment with Military Honors will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
