Helen B. Colquett

Helen Bernice Colquett, 81, of Rockford passed away peacefully at the P.A. Peterson at the Citadel on March 29, 2018 with family at her side. Helen was born on September 11, 1936 in Knoxville, TN, daughter of Charles and Fannie (Hously) Hancock. She married Harry Colquett on September 16, 1952 after he left the National Guard Service and he preceded her in death in April of 2011 after 59 years of marriage at the age of 81. Helen was a member of Rockford United General Baptist Church. She was a CNA and doing what she loved by taking care of others. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, oldest daughter Mary Helen (Colquett) Mueller, adopted son Harry Colquett II and three brothers George Hancock of St. Paul MN, Charles Hancock of Knoxville TN and DierJay Hancock of Nebraska.

Helen is survived by her two daughters: Gwendolyn Colquett (Gene) Schultz and Kathryn Colquett (Curtis) Oliver both of Rockford; two adopted daughters: Joanne Hinkle of TN. and Barbra Kunutson of WI; very special foster children Steven Reynolds and Joann White both of Rockford; grandchildren Felicia (Jim) Skilling of WI, Melissa (Mike) Pahnke of WI, Josh (Marcie) Johner of MO, Jennifer (Lance) Thibault of CO, Jessica Griffaw of MO, Aaron Mueller of Rockton, IL, Elizabeth (Jon) Oliver of Rockford and Jason Oliver of Loves Park; great-grandchildren Dominic (Jordon) Briggs of Rockford, Ashleigh Pahnke and Alec Pahnke both of Plover WI, Mary Griffaw and Colleen Griffaw both of MO, Kassie Johner and Hayley Johner both of MO, Isabel Thiboult and Lincoln Thiboult both of CO and Liam Oliver of Loves Park; great-great-grandson Allistair Briggs of Rockford ; several nieces and nephews that she loved very dearly.

The family would like to thank the whole staff at P.A.Peterson and Northern Illinois Hospice for taking such great care of her, she loved them all so much.

A service to celebrate Helen’s life will be 2:00 pm on Monday, April 2, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park; visitation will be from 1:00 pm until time of service at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Chapel of Peace.
