Our mother, Helen A. Lane, 99, of Rockford, met Jesus face to face, Wednesday, December 26, in her home surrounded by family. She was born Friday, June 13, 1913, in Cocke County, Tennessee to John and Molly (Golden) Marshall. She married Floyd Lane on September 5, 1935 in Rochelle. She retired from GC Electronics/GC Thorsen after 27 years of employment. She enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens, canning and quilting. Most of all, she loved her church and church family. She bowed her knee to God in 1941 and faithfully served her Lord the remainder of her life. She was a member of Riverside Assembly of God Church since 1950, where she taught Sunday school, was involved with the Women’s Missionary Ministry and was a loyal supporter. She and Dad were wonderful Christians who left a legacy of daily Bible reading and prayer even when macular degeneration dimmed her eyes. They led by example. “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.” (Prov. 31:10). “The heart of her husband does safely trust in her….” (v.11). “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her”. (v.28) “…a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.” (v.30) “Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.” (v.31) She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Ruth (Don) Hill, and Joyce (Carroll) Norman, both of Rockford; grandchildren, Kahla Hill (fiancé, Mark Kennedy) of Pearl, MS, Kerry (Sandy) Hill of Caledonia, Kyle Hill of Cherry Valley, Bethany (William) Norman-Atwood; great grandchildren, Ryan and Adam Hill of Caledonia; brother, Paul Marshall of Rockford, whom she raised from age seven when their mother passed away, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, Floyd, on July 27, 2012; parents, three sisters, Ada Lloyd, Mable and Maggie Marshall and beloved grandson, Michael Lane Norman. A special thank you to Olga for your heartfelt dedication and care for Mom these past several months. Also, VNA Hospice, Shelley, Kathy and Julie, and neighbor, Dewey. Our mom will be missed forever, but we are not as those without hope because we will see her again. (I Thessalonians 4:18) Funeral service, 10 a.m., Monday, December 31, at Riverside Assembly of God, 4242 W. Riverside Blvd, Rockford. Pastors Jim Moore and Truman Turner officiating. Visitation, 4 – 6 p.m., Sunday, December 30 at Riverside Assembly of God. Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park. Online condolences may be submitted at www.sunsetfhmemgardens.com.

Aunt Helen , a great pillar of the family, is laid to rest on this day. Be it a sad day for us it is a joyous celebration to her. For she is reunited with Uncle Floyd and my Grandparents , family and friends in the presence of the LORD. How great is that. To talk the talk and walk the walk in all things to GOD in a wonderful testament to a GREAT LADY. May we all have the courage to believe as she did. To HER , thank you for your Love and all the prayers that you prayed for me. Some day i will thank you myself for I believe also in JESUS . PEACE TO ALL THIS DAY FOR DEATH HAS NO STING. VICTORY IS OURS.
Love, Steve

My sincere sympathy for the loss of your beloved Helen. May Job 33:25 comfort you to know that when Helen awakens from sleep, she will live each day to the full with youthful vigor. May you continue to find needed comfort from God's Word and each other.
