Our mother, Helen A. Lane, 99, of Rockford, met Jesus face to face, Wednesday, December 26, in her home surrounded by family. She was born Friday, June 13, 1913, in Cocke County, Tennessee to John and Molly (Golden) Marshall. She married Floyd Lane on September 5, 1935 in Rochelle.
She retired from GC Electronics/GC Thorsen after 27 years of employment. She enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens, canning and quilting. Most of all, she loved her church and church family. She bowed her knee to God in 1941 and faithfully served her Lord the remainder of her life.
She was a member of Riverside Assembly of God Church since 1950, where she taught Sunday school, was involved with the Women’s Missionary Ministry and was a loyal supporter.
She and Dad were wonderful Christians who left a legacy of daily Bible reading and prayer even when macular degeneration dimmed her eyes. They led by example. “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.” (Prov. 31:10). “The heart of her husband does safely trust in her….” (v.11). “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her”. (v.28) “…a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.” (v.30) “Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.” (v.31)
She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Ruth (Don) Hill, and Joyce (Carroll) Norman, both of Rockford; grandchildren, Kahla Hill (fiancé, Mark Kennedy) of Pearl, MS, Kerry (Sandy) Hill of Caledonia, Kyle Hill of Cherry Valley, Bethany (William) Norman-Atwood; great grandchildren, Ryan and Adam Hill of Caledonia; brother, Paul Marshall of Rockford, whom she raised from age seven when their mother passed away, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, Floyd, on July 27, 2012; parents, three sisters, Ada Lloyd, Mable and Maggie Marshall and beloved grandson, Michael Lane Norman.
A special thank you to Olga for your heartfelt dedication and care for Mom these past several months. Also, VNA Hospice, Shelley, Kathy and Julie, and neighbor, Dewey.
Our mom will be missed forever, but we are not as those without hope because we will see her again. (I Thessalonians 4:18)
