Helen M. Spant, 71, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt of Rockford, IL, left this earth on Monday, January 24, 2022 after a long illness. She was born August 18, 1950 in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Andrew and Essie (Primm) Owens. Helen married her soulmate, Jimmy “Woosy” Spant on July 27, 1968 in Rockford. She worked as a personal care assistant for many years. Helen enjoyed reading, especially James Patterson. She was a fashionista who loved music, dancing and traveling. Helen liked doing arts and crafts and interior decorating. She adored her pets. Most of all, Helen loved her family, and she will be greatly missed.
Helen is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jimmy “Woosy” Spant; daughters, Venita Spant – Hunt, Marquetta Spant and Shawaun Spant; grandchildren, James “Antwaun” Hunt, Amber Morris and Tyson Gordon; sister, Elizabeth Glenn; special brother in-law James Edward Loudermilk, special niece, Typhani Owens-Brown, special nephews, Mitchell Wimbush, Quincy Wimbush, Renato “Janius” James, special aunt’s; Alberta Primm, Fannie Mitchell; special cousins, Joyce Ann Campbell and Ricky Turner; special friend Joyce “Oliver” Thompson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Brittany Hunt; siblings, Ivory Owens, Andrew “Jerome” Owens, Archie Owens, and Mitchell Owens.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregiver, Rashonda “Rose Bud” Witherspoon and the entire staff of Amberwood Care Center for their loving and compassionate care of Helen and the family.
A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 pm., Monday, January 31, 2022. Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, ILL 61115 with a funeral service to begin at 2:00 pm Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
