She was born on March 12, 1920 to August and Eugenia (Mueller) Hillert in Granton, Wisconsin. She graduated from high school in Granton and married Ewald Hinkelmann on September 25, 1948.
They moved to Rockford in 1948 where she worked as a head cashier at Piggly Wiggly and Eagles. They moved to Byron in 1988.
Ida was very involved at Saint Pauls Lutheran Church and enjoyed traveling the United States with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ewald, a brother Martin Hillert and a sister, Lydia Hemmersbach.
She is survived by her son Ronald (Linda) Hinkelmann and grandsons Brett (Katie) Hinkelmann and Chad (with friend, Lynnzy) Hinkelmann.
A visitation will be held at 11:00 am, February 4, 2012 at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church N.W., 4881 Kilburn Ave with a funeral service to follow at noon. The Reverend Frank Ciprys will be officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8800 North Alpine, Machesney Park.
A memorial fund has been established in Ida’s name.
