James N. “Jim” Gibbs, 76, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, Friday, October 26, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 17, 1942 in Tyronza, AR, the son of Wheeler and Annie (Tidwell) Gibbs. Jim was proud to have served in the United States Navy for four years. Jim married the love of his life, Janet B. Long on November 2, 1968 in Rockford. He was employed by Gunite Foundry for 32 years. Jim was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed bowling, and playing checkers. Jim was known for his story telling and playing pranks. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Jim is loved and missed by his wife, Janet; children, Bev (Jim) Bursing, Polly (Dave) Stuckey, and Tim (Nikki) Jobes; grandchildren, Jason, Aimee, Tim, Brandy, John, Katie and Jared; 17 great-grandchildren, special sister-in-law, and nephew, Ina and Doug, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Kate, Margaret, Ray, and Mae.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m., until the time of the service. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. Memorials may be made to Serenity Hospice.
