Jason H. South passed away suddenly on Monday, October 7th, 2024, at the age of 47, leaving a void in the lives of the many people whom he left behind. Jason was born in Franklin, Indiana, the son of Steven and Marilyn (Sharp) South. He was beloved by his parents and his older sister, Jennifer, and as time passed, he grew into new roles as Big Brother, Uncle, Great Uncle, and Friend.
Jason graduated from Roosevelt High School and went on to obtain numerous degrees and certifications from Rock Valley College, where he graduated on the Dean’s List. He found a career at Rakuten (then known as Fatwallet), where he would spend 16.5 years, becoming one of the longest standing employees and accumulating a list of friends and colleagues that would be the envy of many people.
Jason lived his life with passion. His interests were varied, and he could easily explain to you the details of skydiving procedures, or give you the best recipe for perfectly balanced oatmeal scotchies. He enjoyed playing blackjack, watching a good movie, or taking a scenic motorcycle ride, and he loved spending a quiet night in with his dog Maya while exploring some of his favorite video games.
Jason also cared very deeply for his family. He leaves behind a close group of loved ones who now lean on each other for comfort, sharing with each other the great memories and remembering all of the love and joy that Jason brought to the family. He is loved and deeply missed by his mother, Marilyn; brother, Patrick (Summer Gillispie) Chasteen; sister, Victoria (Brian) Johnson; nephews and niece, Eric (Jessi) South, Tyler South, and Kyah South; great-nephew, Raylan South; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Jason was preceded in death by his father, Steven South; sister, Jennifer South; maternal and paternal grandparents; and numerous aunts and uncles.
A small service will be held for Jason on Thursday, October 24th at 10:30 am
