

Jean M. Barber, 92, of Sterling, formerly of Rockford, passed away Saturday, July 16, at Sterling Pavilion Care Center. Jean attended college in DeKalb, IL and was a teacher in the Sterling area for many years. She was born on August 5, 1918 in Sterling, the daughter of Ray C. and Lura (Atwood) Pettit. She married Price Barber in 1944 and together they raised two daughters; Kathie Nicodemus of Freeport and Donna (Curt Hagen) Janssen of Sterling. She is survived by her daughters; grandchildren, Eric Peterson of Missouri, Christy (Paul) Carlson and children, of Rockford, Julie (Frank) Wise and children of Freeport; brother; Ray (Fern) Pettit of Pontiac, and many nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her grandson Jeff Peterson, son-in-law Bob Nicodemus, sisters and brothers in law Marian and Ray Coble and Dorothy and Lefty Phillips, Evelyn and Lou Esser, and special friend Bob Krug. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 21, at 11 a.m. at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, 18268 Pennington Rd. Sterling, IL 61081. Hospice Chaplain Rita Wolf will conduct the service.
