

Jesse B. Peters, “Benny” or “Jess”, 96, died in his sleep on Friday, April 15, 2016 at Wesley Willows Health Center, Rockford, Il. Born October 4, 1919 in Decatur, Il to Jesse and Cora (Burman) Peters. His given name was George Edward Peters significant of his two brothers who died as infants. He was a grandson of German immigrant Andrew Peters. He served in the Army 1936-1940 as an artillery man and then recalled in 1941-1945 at Camp Grant in Rockford, Il and as an MP in Alaska. In 1941 he married Violet Kerwood and together raised their two children. Violet died in 1981. He then married Lorraine McAfee and moved to Fl. She preceded him in death.
Jesse was active as a Boy Scout Leader, Dale Carnegie Instructor, Masons and member of Christ United Methodist Church in Decatur also a member of Christ United Methodist Church in North Port, Fl.
Survivors: son, Michael (Jeannine) Peters; grandchildren, Gregory (Nicole) Peters, Kimberly (Brent) Walter, Michele (Troy) Cumberland; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Kara, Drew, Madison, Madeline, Brett. Predeceased by, wife, Violet and Lorraine; son, Jesse Peters; sisters, Eleanor, Dorothy and Ruth.
