Joe L. Adams, 87, of Rockford, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday, February 27, 2024. Joe was born March 27, 1936, in Sumner, Mississippi, to Curley and Elizabeth (Hollins) Adams. Joe attended East High School of Rockford, and graduated in 1956. He started working at a local post office before starting with Rockford Clutch as a machinist, and retiring as a supervisor. In the 1960’s, Joe married Dorothy Hinton, before she preceded him in death in 2003. He then married Charlene Barbary in 2004, before she preceded him in death in 2019.
Throughout his life, Joe loved sports, and he himself was athletic. In high school, he even played football and ran track. He also loved to go bowling when he had the chance, and played on several teams in the Rockford area.
He is survived by his son, Bradley (Stephanie) Vance; granddaughters, Nakiah and Anaya; great-grandson, who Joe shared a special birthday with, Gentry; special friends, Kay and James Randall, and Delores Vance.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Curley and Elizabeth; sister, Curlesse Walker; first wife, Dorothy; second wife, Charlene.
