John H. Coleman, 85, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2026, at home surrounded by his family. John was born in Franklin, North Carolina, on January 10, 1941, to Henry and Annie Coleman. John relocated to the Rockford area as a child. In 1964, John married the love of his life Carrie. In 1971, John began with Chrysler, retiring in 2001. During this time, John made countless friends. In general, he made friends everywhere he went and was extremely outgoing. In his younger years, he was an active member of the Rockford Masonic Lodge. His favorite interest by far was attending auctions and estate sales, gaining him the nickname of “Number 1”. His collection of antiques was diverse, anywhere from coins to watches.
John is survived by his loving wife, Carrie Coleman; beloved children, Anthony Coleman, Sonja Coleman, Leticia Coleman, and Jonathon Coleman; grandchildren, Durrell, Myquan, Breauna, and Carl Jr.; siblings, Betty Harris, Elizabeth Howell, Jesse Coleman, and Alonzo Coleman; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Annie; brothers, Robert Isaiah Coleman and Ted Coleman.
