Joyce F. Mershon, 90, of De Motte, IN, formerly of Roscoe, IL, passed away peacefully Friday morning, February 7, 2025 in Brooks, IN. Born January 27, 1935 in Moline, IL, the daughter of Wesley and Evelyn (Farmer) Simms. She married her sweetheart, Walter “Buster” Mershon on May 10, 1952 in Rockford. Joyce was a devoted member of Grace Lutheran Church. She and Walter lived in Iowa, Colorado, Florida and Alaska where they owned and managed several businesses. Joyce enjoyed baking, cooking and knitting in her free time. She was an excellent wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed.
Joyce is survived by her children, Cathy (Brian) Witthoeft and Gary Mershon; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter, sons Roy Mershon and Larry Mershon.
A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m., Friday, February 14, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a funeral service to begin at 2:00 p.m. Entombment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
