Kenneth LeRoy Downing, 55, loving husband, dad and brother, lifelong Rockford resident, died on Friday, February 4, 2011, in Rockford Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born May 30, 1955, in Rockford, the son of John Downing and Phyllis (Vermeiss) Downing. Married Teresa Paris on March 21, 1981. He enjoyed traveling with the family, camping, boating, hunting and fishing. A self-taught musician who played guitar and bass. Survivors include his wife, Teresa; children, Jason Downing, Ashley Downing; brother, Gary (Phyllis) Downing; sister, Donna (Robert) Phillips; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents John and Phyllis Downing; brothers, James Downing and Jay Downing. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine, Machesney Park, IL 61115. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Monday, February 7, 2011 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
