Kurt Konrad Johnson, 64, passed away on July 10, 2020, surrounded by his beloved family. Kurt was born November 7, 1955 in Rockford, IL to Carl and Carol (Cooper) Johnson. Married Cathy on June 12, 1976, just celebrating 44 years of marriage.
Grandfather, Father, Husband, Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Colleague, Vikings fan, Hawks fan, Celtics fan, C ubs fan, and of course, Papa. By whatever title you knew Kurt, you knew him as a selfless, caring man that lived for his family. Kurt, a lifelong resident of Rockford, was a proud graduate of East High School. While attending East, Kurt started his career with JL Clark in 1973. Kurt was finishing up his 47th year at JL Clark and was looking forward to his retirement in November. In his spare time, Kurt could be found flipping between sports and the weather channel, working on puzzles, building lego sets for his grandchildren or gardening. But for the past decade, his primary past time was holding the title of Papa Kurt. Kurt spent much of his free time playing with his grandkids and attending whatever event they were in. From dance recitals, to swim meets, to soccer and baseball games, Papa Kurt was always there for support.
Kurt is survived by wife, Cathy “Taf”; children, Heidi (Sean) Delahanty and Erik (Rachel) Johnson; grandchildren, Madison and Riley Delahanty, and Evan and Lauren Johnson; brother, Scott Johnson; and a host of family members, friends and neighbors that he was devoted to.
A special thank you to the staff of Swedish American for their loving and compassionate support during this time.
