Larry Johnson

Larry A. Johnson, 63, of Rockford IL, passed away October 18, 2021. Lovingly known as Papa Bear, Larry was a deeply devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He was born on May 5, 1958 in Rockford to Gloria and Lloyd Johnson. Larry cherished time spent with his family, he enjoyed family trips to Lake Wisconsin, as well as going thrift shopping and antiquing. He loved rock music, and going to see his favorite bands live in concert. Larry was sociable and relatable, even to strangers, he would easily spark a conversation. He was also an avid Wisconsin Badgers fan. He married the love of his life, Becky, and together they shared two children, and 44 years in marriage. He will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife, Becky Johnson; daughter, Kenna Johnson; father, Lloyd (Ingeborg) Johnson; siblings, Lana (Robert) Morvice, and Lewis (Jeff Fletcher) Wallace; step father, Ivan Wallace; nieces, Amy (Scott Schulze) Jorgenson, Rachel (Robert Allgaeuer) Torgerson, and Katy Torgerson; great nephews/nieces, Joshua Sparrow, Elijah Jorgenson, Ava Jorgenson, and Alexis Allgaeuer; and brother in law, Randy (Julie) Torgerson, he is also survived by numerous extended family members whom he loved dearly.

He is predeceased by his son, Eric Johnson; mother, Gloria Wallace; infant sister, Lisa Wallace; nephew, Joshua Sparrow; as well as his in laws, Ralph and Mary Torgerson.

A funeral for Larry is scheduled for Monday October 25 at 2pm at Sunset Funeral Home, located at 8800 N. Alpine Rd. Machesney Park IL. A visitation will be held at 1pm until the time of service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
