LaVerne C. Lenius, 90, of Machesney Park, passed away on April 17, 2013, surrounded by his family. Born on June 8, 1922, in Rockford, he was the son of Carl and Nettie (Everett) Lenius. He married Doris Phoenix on June 8, 1946, in Rockford. LaVerne was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran who served in the Pacific as a crane operator. He was a lifetime member of the Roscoe VFW, and the Rockford and Belvidere Moose Club. A lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, he attended Rockford Public Schools and retired from Atwood Vacuum & Machine Company after 37 years of service. An avid golfer, he was very proud of his "Hole in One". He enjoyed fishing, hunting, building bird houses, and spending his winters in Cape Coral, FL, which he and his wife did for 17 years. LaVerne was a "Jack of all Trades". His survivors include his wife of 66 years, Doris Lenius; daughters, Jan (Dennis) Keirn and Carolyn (Bill) King; son, Mike Lenius; 6 grandchildren; 8.5 great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; 2 sisters; and 3 brothers. Funeral service at noon Saturday, April 20, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N.
