I had the pleasure of knowing Peter and LaVerne for many years of working at Rockford Dental Care.   I'm saddened by this.  LaVerne was one of the sweetest,  kindest people I've ever met.   Her family is in my prayers. ❤

I remember Aunt Laverne fondly from when we were kids. In the 1960’s one of my favorite things to do was to stop over at Aunt LaVerne’s and Uncle Pete’s house on a Sunday afternoon. We were always graciously welcomed and we would all watch the Ed Sullivan show and the FBI show while being treated to a slice of watermelon or chocolate milk shake.  Despite me making bad sounding music on the piano I was never told to be quiet.

Aunt Laverne was always kind, thoughtful and funny with me and everyone else. She was a terrific aunt and it was easy to see that she was a great wife, mother and grandmother to her loved ones and she was loved and respected by the people that knew her.  

Remembering my Aunt Laverne and  thinking of you all and wishing you comfort.

I have such warm memories of sitting next to LaVerne at  Laura, Carolyn, and Matt’s birthday parties.   She was so kind and caring and I remember having many laughs with her. You could truly feel the love she had for her family and I always tell Linda...Pete and LaVerne..a love story for the ages! ❤️
One of my favorite memories is watching LaVerne dance at Carolyn’s wedding! You could see the joy she had being with her family.

I am so very sorry for your loss.  I wish that I had some magical words that could ease your pain through this difficult time.

Aunt Laverne was such a lovely person.  She was so sweet and kind and funny.  She could always make you smile or laugh.  I remember her driving Linda and i back and forth one summer, every day during the week, so that we could play Barbies and swim in our 3' pool!  I remember the junk days, and picnics we went to.  And on the picnics her and Uncle Pete would take us on walks thru the park and they would always be holding hands.  I remember begging to go to Aunt Laverne and Uncle Pete's house when we were on our way home from Grandma and Grandpa's.   I loved hanging out at your house!!  And I remember her telling me how much she loved Brent Farve and that Aaron Rogers wasn't that bad either!

She will truly be missed!  I am so glad that you had her in your lives for 89 awesome years; and that she had you, her children and grandchildren - who made her so happy.  You were and are so very blessed.  I love you guys and my heart and prayers are with you.    Love,  Cindy



My Mother passed away on November 10th, 2019.  I could not ask for a more Wonderful and Caring Mom.  I will miss our morning telephone calls.  Mom, You May Be Gone But You Will Always Be With Me. You gave me all your Love.

Aunt LaVerne was a wonderful aunt and caring lady and I will miss her. Even though we lived so far from each other we would talk occasionally on the phone and have very nice conversations. In the 1960s my parents would take annual road trips from California to Iliinois to visit all of our relatives and we always enjoyed our visits with Aunt LaVerne. She was a wonderful human being.

Our thoughts  go out to Uncle Pete, Cousin Linda, Cousin Mary and Cousin John. Love to all of you from Gwen and I.

LaVerne is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Peter, of Rockford, IL, sister, Catherine Reid, of Redwoods, CA, daughter Mary (Mike) Miller of Rockford, IL, and Linda (Mike) Massier of Machesney Park, IL. LaVerne is also survived by her four granddaughters, Dr. Laura (John Goulding) Massier of Chicago, IL, Carolyn (Nolan) Schlie of Belvidere, IL, Leslie (Ken) Corcoran of Indianapolis, IN, Andrea (Mike) Moore of Peoria, AZ, her exceptional grandson, Matthew Massier of Machesney Park, IL, and five great-grandchildren. 
LaVerne is predeceased by her parents, James and Olivia Thresher, and her siblings, Jeanette Thresher, Evelyn Rankin and James Thresher.
