Leatrice Margaret Thompson Schorer, 88, of Rockford, passed away peacefully at St. Anne’s Center on Monday, November 8, 2021. Born on March 3, 1933 in Rockford, Illinois, the daughter of Vincent and Leone (Coonrad) Johnson. Married Donald E. Thompson in November 1952 and William Schorer in February 1976.
Lea was a member of the North Park Church of Christ in Machesney Park. She worked many years in the bookstore at Rockford College and retired from Rockford College as the Manager of the college bookstore.
Lea was a meticulous housekeeper and an excellent cook. She enjoyed playing cards, board games, and working on puzzles and word searches. Her sweet smile and gentle spirit made it easy for people to be drawn to Lea and for her to have a positive impact on their lives.
She is survived by daughter Cathy (Tim) Firm, very special granddaughters Sara and Kailey Firm; sister-in-law Barbara Johnson, step-children, Christine, Pam, Patti, Cathy, and Bill; and a combined total of 43 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Predeceased by parents; siblings, Richard Johnson, Gloria Hendrick, Thomas Johnson, Steve Johnson, and Edward Johnson; first husband Donald Thompson in 1973, second husband Bill Schorer in 2012; and children Michael Thompson, David Thompson, Donnie Thompson, Eddie Thompson, and Roger Thompson.

Visitation to be held on Friday September 12 from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park, with the funeral service to begin at 2:00 p.m. and a graveside internment to follow. A luncheon will be provided by members of the North Park Church of Christ at the church located at 7620 Elm Avenue, Machesney Park following the graveside internment. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Leatrice’s name to the Helping Hands Pantry, 7620 Elm Avenue, Machesney Park, Illinois 61115.
