Leona J. Hill, 99, of Rockford, IL, passed away, Tuesday afternoon, October 6, 2026 in Byron, IL, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born March 8, 1927 in Viroqua, WI. Leona worked at Morris Kennedy Grade School and Flynn Middle School as a cook for over 30 years. Leona shared 50 loving years with her partner, Herbert "Loren" Miller, he preceded her in death in 2018. She was a caretaker for her mother, Florence. Her greatest joy was her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She is loved and missed by her daughter, Janice Austin; grandchildren, Mike (Lora) McNeal, Terry (Randy) Stupka, Dawn (John) Eisenhauer, Dave McNeal, Bryan (Jen) Austin, Steve (Annette) Austin, Lorie Miller, Jeremy and Jason Miller; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Connor, Maxwell, Taylor, Shane, Marcus, Kevin, Collin and Tristen; great-great-grandchildren, Sophia, Aliyah, Braden, Jameson, Landon and Addie. She was preceded in death by her mother, Florence, daughter Joyce McNeal, brothers Troy and Marlin, and sister Charlotte.
A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Monday, October 12, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a funeral service to begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
