LeRoy L. Layng

LeRoy L. Layng, 84, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, Tuesday morning, February 25, 2025. He was born April 19, 1940 in Rockford, IL, the son of Roy and Virginia (Hoopes) Layng. LeRoy graduated from East High School, class of 1958. He went on to serve in the Army National Guard. LeRoy married Judith M. Buss on May 4, 1963 in Rockford. He was employed as a lineman at Illinois Bell for 40 years. LeRoy enjoyed fishing and giving his money to casinos. He was an avid collector of many things. LeRoy was a man of strength, integrity, perseverance, strong willed, honest, determined, faithful and dedicated to his family. Judy was the love of his life for almost 62 years.

LeRoy is loved and missed by his wife, Judith; children, Heather Harlston and Heath Layng; grandchildren, Chantel (Mike Hamilton) Ware, Damian Ware, Anthony Ware, Deanna Ware, Porsche (Brian) Ware, Bart Ware; great-grandchildren, Kamryn, Cayden, Alaysia, Trejon, Toriyanna, Marshall, Tayvion, Tianna, Khaleesi, Taraji and Tierica; sister-in-laws, Nancy Layng, Janet Doherty and Barb Kretsinger; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, great-grandson, Isaiah and brother, Charles "Charlie."

A memorial gathering will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, March 7, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL with military honors to be held at 6:00 p.m. Private burial will take place in the future.
