Linzie Roscoe Hake

LINZIE ROSCOE HAKE, 93 GREENVILLE, S.C. - Linzie Roscoe Hake, 93, was received into heaven by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 30, 2014. Born in Hartville, Missouri, he was the son of the late Jesse Ertal and Gertie Benton Hake. He moved to Rockford, Illinois, in 1948, where he remained a resident until June 2004, when he moved to South Carolina. He married Velma Pauline Farris in November 1945. They were married 55 years before her death in November 2000. Second Lt. Hake proudly served our country in the US Army during World War II with General George Patton's "Hell on Wheels", 2nd Armored Division. Arriving on the shores of North Africa on Christmas Eve 1942, he served as a member of Company F, 41st Armored Infantry Regiment in six major battles and campaigns: Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. A Purple Heart recipient, he also was awarded the Belgian Fourragere, European Theatre of Operations Ribbon with six Bronze Battle Stars and Bronze Arrowhead, Victory Medal, and Combat Infantryman Badge. Linzie retired after 30 plus years as a quality control inspector for Modern Metal Products in Loves Park, Illinois, in 1986. At the age of 25, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, whom he loved and faithfully served. He was a charter member of Windsor Baptist Church in Loves Park, and North Love Baptist Church in Rockford, Illinois, where he served both churches in various capacities. He attended Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church in Greenville for the last 10 years. Surviving are his children, Rita Hassig and her husband, Lou; Terry Hake and his wife, Debbie; and Connie Jaworski and her husband, Kenneth; 9 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; his son, Albert Leroy Hake; three brothers, Elmer, Leroy and Daniel; and sister, Jane. Graveside service 2 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2014, at Sunset Memorial Gardens Chapel of Love, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park.
