Loan T. Nguyen

Loan Thi Nguyen, 93 of Loves Park, IL, was welcomed into heaven surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 12, 2017. Was born December 20, 1923, in Vietnam to Sanh Van Nguyen and Nhu Thi Duong. She married Tu Duy Duong in Vietnam and spent 35 years together while raising their eight children. In a life well celebrated, Loan embraced life. Sheloved to travel and was always eager to take road trips. She never remained idle. She was a devout servant to her catholic faith, praying the rosary daily, often attending church twice a day, she led her life by example. While in Vietnam Loan was a member of the organization “Da Minh". She received an award for donating her time and money to build the church and form the church’s community activities. After her husband's death in 1982, Loan journeyed with her family to the United States when she was about 70 years old, most of her children were already married and had their own families; however, Loan continued to support her children and helped them to raise their families. She was truly a soldier of courage, strength and faith. A perfect day for Loan would be cooking the families favorite foods; shrimp noodle soup, rice flour cakes and caramel fish and surrounding herself with the presence of her family and engaging in the playful activities of her grand and great grandchildren.

She was an amazing woman filled with wisdom, love and kindness. Her legacy will long live through the lives of all her family.

Survived by 7 children, Long Duy Duong (Ngo Pham), Hoang Duy (Barbara) Duong, Lan Hong Duong (Thanh Le), Lua Le, Loa Duy (Thuy) Duong, Lai (Bill) Drogosz & Hanh (Dien) Nguyen; 15 grandchildren, Linh (Bunny) Phomachanh, Khanh Duong (Dai Nguyen), Hai Duong, Trang Duong, Amy Duong, Sean Duong, Lam Le, Huong (Derek) Roberts, Thao Le, Jessica Le, John (Stefanie) Le, Vy Duong, Hannah Nguyen & Dylan Nguyen; step grandchildren, Stephanie (Richard) Gustin; and 5 great-grandchildren, Elise, Aiden, Austin & Ashton Phomachanh & Maggi Roberts, Predeceased by parents; husband; and son Luyen Duy Duong.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. on Sat. Feb. 18, at St Bridgets Church, 600 Clifford Ave, Loves Park, IL. Burial following in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation: 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. on Fri. Feb. 17, at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Rd. Machesney Park, IL.
