Lucy Viola Sawyer-Ford

Lucy was born on January 14, 1941 in Marked Tree, AR, the daughter of Lester Eugene Sawyer, Sr. and Hermie May Crossen. She married Mannford Ford in 1988. Lucy was a member of Water of Life Ministries and a graduate of East High School in Rockford. Lucy was employed as a Secretary and Bookkeeper for over 40 years with Goodwill Industries. She was of a strong faith and was always the first one at church; she loved to sing praises to the Lord.

Lucy is survived by her 3 sisters: Mavis Jolene (Jerry) Usrey, Margie Lemons both of Rockford, Veda (Alvin Ray) Williams of Machesney Park; brother Lester E. (Mary) Sawyer, Jr. of Caledonia; several nieces, nephews, great nephews and cousins.

Lucy was preceded in death by her mother Hermie Sawyer in 1983, father Lester Sawyer, Sr. in 1992 and husband Mannford Ford in 2005.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family.

A service to celebrate Lucy’s life will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday October 31, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park with a visitation one hour before the service starting at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
