Marie E. Dixon

Marie E. Dixon, 89, of Lindenwood, IL, formerly of Belvidere, IL, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2025. She was born August 5, 1935 in Mohawk, TN, the daughter of Moody and Gertrude Ashley. Marie graduated from Belvidere High School and went on to work as an Executive Assistant at Saint Joseph's Hospital until their closing and went on to work for OSF Home Care until retirement. She married Doyle Dixon on May 1, 1993 in Rockford. Marie enjoyed finding a good bargain and collecting antiques, especially teapots. She loved gardening and raising orchids. Marie was an animal lover and had many pets over the years. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Marie is loved and missed by her children, Tom (Joanne) Gillespie and Kelly (Mike) Sullivan; grandchildren, Chelsea (Tristan) Craig, Benjamin Gillespie, Ashleigh (Matt) Kayser, Rachel Craig, Heather (Peter) Bahrman and Carley (Mirjan) Zaho; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Bob (Ann) Ashley and Margaret Ashley Hellrung; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Doyle, her son Jim Gillespie, siblings Betty Jean (Ralph) Hoover, John (Sue) Ashley and Lois Carolyn (Dick) Fletcher.

A visitation for Marie will be held Friday, May 9, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 8800 North Alpine Road, Machesney Park, Illinois 61115, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.

Marie will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8800 North Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL 61115-2277.
