Marie C. Messineo, 89, of Poplar Grove, Illinois, formerly of Chicago, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her five children on Tuesday, January 21, 2020. She was born November 28, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, the second daughter of Carl and Mary (Nuccio) Casaccio. She was a devout member of Saint James Catholic Church in Belvidere, and Saint Pascal Church in Chicago.
Music was Marie’s first love, and from an early age she loved to entertain those around her with her beautiful voice. She sang for weddings and variety shows for many years. She was a 20 year member of the world champion Melodeers Chorus, a Sweet Adelines chapter, and proudly earned three international gold medals as well as countless regional medals.
She loved to play cards and organized a weekly card game for her Flames group, as well as taught and led water aerobics every summer in her Candlewick community. She was well loved by many for her generous spirit and kind heart, and was always the first to introduce herself and welcome newcomers into her circle of friends. She passed on her love of music and cards to her children and grandchildren, a love which will live on for generations.
Marie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Joseph. She is survived by her children, Kathleen Messineo, Joseph (Tina) Messineo, Jr., Judith Messineo, Peggy (Rob) Czech, and Lori (Todd) Parker; grandchildren, Jeffry, Rebecca, Stefanie, Marty, Melanie, Matthew, Shelby and Luke; and great-grandsons, Vinnie and Liam; as well as sister, Phyllis Claypool. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother-in-law, Harold Claypool.
